Baseball and Bicycles.

We got up this morning in time to catch part of the Royals-O's game "live" (about 5 minutes delayed) on ESPN radio. Unfortunately, the live tv web feed overpowered our slow hotel connection.

After eating breakfast, we set for a bike ride to the beach with the score 5-5 at the 7th inning stretch. We returned from our 10-mile pedal through the countryside to find the score 8-5 in the bottom of the 10th with Greg Holland pitching. He made it more exciting than he needed to, but the end was great, even if it did cause the others in the bar to wonder what the high-fives were all about.

The countryside here is lovely and reminds me of the canals and rice fields in Kien Hoa, down south. After returning the bicycles to the hotel, we walked back into town to wander through the market and shop some more.

The Ha An hotel where we have been staying is a nice property.  It proudly bills itself as a private enterprise.  I have no idea whether other of the hotels we have stayed in are state-run, but the level of service at this place is really first class.  It has been a great place to relax for a few days.

This evening before dinner we went to Mass in the local Catholic church.  The parish here was founded in the 1600's by Alexander of Rhodes, the French Jesuit missionary who invented the romanized alphabet used by the Vietnamese today. Dinner was at a pretty riverside restaurant around the corner from our hotel.  We'll turn in early, since we leave the hotel at 5:45 tomorrow morning for the flight to Nha Trang.
